GFS is run by Graham and Sophie Ashton, from our HQs overlooking Belper Mill. We have recently added a new office in Derby due to high demand in the central Derby area and to the south of Derby.
GFS Plumbing was established in 2008 after nearly a decade of learning with Derbyshire plumbing firms. We thought we had something to offer when customers started insisting only Graham went to carry out their work.
The company name was created by using the initials of each member of our family, Graham, Sophie and our only child at the time, Freya. (There has since been another addition to the family, Kai, but we will have to name something else after him!)
Graham Ashton
After leaving school Graham started his plumbing career at PTS (Plumbing Trade Supplies) in Derby and postede CVs and pased on business cards at every opportunity to gain a much sought after plumbing apprenticeship. This came nearly a year later at Derby firm, Gas Care, who were most impressed by his knowledge on hundreds of plumbing and heating parts! Once qualified Graham gained employment with several reputable companies across Derbyshire, lastly Henson’s of Ilkeston, where he progressed to project management and honed his skills (and love!) for bathroom refurbishments.
Graham’s best bits about the job helping people enjoy their home, problem solving, the before and after ‘wow’ factor, being my own boss.
Sophie Ashton
Sophie fills the admin function of the company from taking calls to booking adverts. Anything that Graham doesn’t have time for – Sophie does! With a background in design Sophie also loves bathroom refurbishments, taking a brief or budget (both often very tight!) and facilitating the project from start to finish.

The Team
At present our team includes three other fully-qualified plumbers and gas engineers, Ben, Gary and James, as well as regular attendance from Chris the builder, Karl the electrician, Chris the tiler and Dave the plasterer. We pride ourselves on our strong team of highly skilled craftsmen and know that they stand for the same things as us – quality, reliability, respect and goodwill.
The Hound
